Welcome to Middle School Athletics

At EMS ISD, athletics is more than just competition—it’s a gateway to growth, teamwork, and life lessons.

Our programs offer students the opportunity to challenge themselves, develop leadership skills, and be part of something bigger. Whether your student is stepping onto the field, court, or track, they will be supported by dedicated staff who are committed to their success both on and off the field.

Our commitment to you...

As a staff, we are committed to providing your student-athlete with the knowledge, attention, direction, morality, discipline, and care. We have set our expectations high. We will promote team unity and will strive to motivate your student athlete's best efforts. We are truly committed to teaching life lessons through athletics.

Our mission is to prepare your student-athlete to be highly successful in the classroom, community, and on the athletic fields. We will prepare your student-athlete so that he/she will understand and embrace the honor and respect they need to achieve athletically and academically at the next level of their educational experience.

Helpful Links for Athletes & Parents

Physical

Your child must have a physical in order to be in the athletics class and participate in a sport. Physicals must be dated after May 1 for the upcoming school year.

All athletes must have a physical, medical history, and complete the required online forms each year.

Online forms are completed through Rank One.

Athletic Uniforms

Your child must purchase an athletic uniform. The uniform includes 1 shirt and 1 pair of shorts.

The cost of the uniform is $35.00. Additional sets are optional and may be available for purchase. More information will be provided by your campus.

Uniforms can be purchased through RevTrak.

Sports Participation Guidelines

In middle school, we encourage your student to participate in as many sports as possible to explore interests, build skills, and be part of a team.

Most sports require a tryout process, meaning your student must earn a spot on the team. The exception is football—there are no cuts. If your child signs up for football, they will be placed on a team.

If your student participates in football, volleyball, or basketball, they must be enrolled in the athletics class.

Cross Country and Track
These sports take place before or after school, so your student is not required to be in the athletics class to participate.
However, we highly recommend enrolling in the athletics class to improve conditioning, access skill development, and be eligible to try out for other sports.

Soccer and Tennis
Soccer and tennis each have their own athletic period.
If your student plans to play only soccer or tennis, they should enroll in that specific class.
If your student plans to try out for other sports—like football, volleyball, or basketball—they should be enrolled in the athletics class instead.

Golf and Gymnastics
Golf and gymnastics are unique offerings that take place off campus at the high school level.
  • Practices are held at feeder high schools.
  • EMS ISD high school coaches lead these programs.
  • Parents are responsible for transporting students to the high school; a bus will return students to their middle school afterward.
  • Golfers must bring their own set of clubs.
  • Students participating in golf or gymnastics will not be enrolled in the athletics class during the school day.
