Hundreds of EMS ISD Students Advance to State Youth and Government Competitions

Chisholm Trail High School became a hub of civic leadership and student voice as EMS ISD hosted its District YMCA Youth and Government meet, welcoming high school and middle school students from across the district for a day of debate, collaboration, and democratic process. 

Students stepped into the roles of legislators, judges, attorneys, governors, and media representatives, tackling real-world issues and courtroom scenarios while sharpening skills in public speaking, critical thinking, and civic engagement. Their efforts paid off in a big way. Hundreds of EMS ISD students advanced from the district meet to the Texas YMCA Youth and Government state conferences, which will be held in Austin next semester. 

Among the standout successes was Saginaw High School’s Mock Trial team, which placed first at the district level and will compete in the top spot at the state competition.

Leadership was also on full display throughout the event. Emory Miramontes Eldredge, a Boswell High School senior, is the current High School Governor, while Joshua Mugisha, an eighth grader at Creekview Middle School, is the state's Middle School Governor. Both students helped guide the event and model the poise and professionalism expected of elected leaders. 

The meet also drew the attention of local leaders. Fort Worth City Councilman Carlos Flores stopped by to observe the student-run proceedings and tour the event. He was welcomed and guided by Governor Miramontes Eldredge, giving the councilman a firsthand look at how EMS ISD students are preparing to be tomorrow’s civic leaders today. 

From legislative chambers to trial courts, the District Youth and Government meet highlighted the depth of talent, leadership, and dedication among EMS ISD students, and set the stage for strong district representation at the state level.
